GOD IS ALMIGHTY
Almost every Christian knows that our God is the Almighty God. The Bible says so and we also believe so. Many of us have experienced His works in our lives. Even so, there are some Christians who still have doubt about Him and His existence, and it seems more difficult to prove that God is almighty to unbelievers.
Many Christians like to look at works of miracles and wonders as indications of God’s power, but it’s not simple like that.
The Bible has warned us that in the period before the Lord Jesus Christ comes back to earth, there will be some people who will deceive Christians by performing fake miracles and wonders, as it was written in the second letter of Thessalonians:
2THESSALONIANS 2: 9 – The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie.
Satan himself will also appear as an angel of light, and together with his demons disguised as servants of God, to make certain that many Christians will turn away from Him and His truth:
2CORINTHIANS 11: 14-15 – And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.
Therefore, looking at miracles and work of wonders as indication of God’s power is not always truthful and benefiting for our Christian’s faith.
Satan is the chief deceiver and if Christians did not use the Bible as a standard to distinguish and verify miracles and work of wonders, we would easily fell into Satan’s trap and then our faith would be affected, turn aside or even loose it.
It is one of many reasons that make us to study the Bible even more, because it is the only source for us Christians to build up our faith in God and to understand the power of our Almighty God.
Before we go further into some details that help us to understand God’s power, we like to remind you one more time that Satan has often used many devious ways to make Christians distrust the Bible as the Word of God. It was the way he used to tempted Eve to eat the forbidden fruits in Eden, when he said that God’s words was not trustful enough:
GENESIS 3: 1-5 – Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say: ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent: “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say: ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die’”. “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil”.
So, nowadays, in the same way, Satan often tempted Christians not believing the Bible as the Word of God, but as we trust it, in the book we will discover God’s power.
But firstly, we will think a little bit about what others said about the Bible.
Some scholars among unbelievers said that the Bible has been copied many times from the ancient periods until now therefore it is cannot be trusted as an original manuscripts.
What they meant were the mistakes about spelling, the ways translators used other languages to substitute for original words, and other notes that Hebrew’ scribers and Catholic monks added in the Bible. The unbelieving scholars made those mistakes look like major faults that corrupted the Bible.
But in reality, disregarding those mistakes, the theme in the Bible is still going through the whole book as God intended for it. And that is the first evidence to show us the power of God.
2TIMOTHY 3: 16 – All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
As we already know, the Bible contains 66 small books that were written by 40 authors, covering a period of more than 1600 years, in three different languages: Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek. Those authors were kings, princes, poets, philosophers, prophets and statesmen, few of them even did not go to school, like the case of Peter and John:
ACTS 4: 13 – When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
Even so, God used all of them to write the book that He blessed the world with. That is one of the biggest work of wonders that prove God is almighty.
The combination of their writings is in itself a miracle that human mind never be able to do the same, because in the Bible there is no contradiction and no differences in God’s plan for humankind that was recorded in all 66 books.
If anyone tried to do the same with just books from different authors within 100 years on one particular subject then that person would see how difficult it is, or is even an impossible task to begin with.
But many people have criticized the Bible when they only read some parts or even just a few verses in it, and with that little knowledge they despised the Bible. What they did is like someone ate a bowl of white noodle without all of its ingredients.
Many people attack the Christian’s faith with questions relating to some verses or parts that they picked here and there in the Bible and then judged it as a nonsense book without actually study all of it.
Even many Christians did not pay enough attention to it although the Bible is the main source for our faith in God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
But as we careful and patiently study the Bible, especially with help from the Holy Spirit, we will surely discover it as wonderful and benefiting that no human book can compare to.
In all human history there is no other book that was studied as much as the Holy Bible. Statistic shows that the Bible has been translated into more than 200 languages and printed in the amount of billions of copy.
But sadly, there are still many Christians who ignore the Bible and never treated it as one of the biggest blessing that God has given us.
Next time when we study another subject relating to the Bible, we will discuss more details of many wonderful things in it, but today I just want to use one more evidence within the Bible to prove to you about how almighty our God is.
The second evidence that proves God is powerful is the prophecies in the Bible. They are self-fulfilling and have been become reality during human history, especially in our present time.
For example, concerning the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible states that on the day He comes, everyone on earth will see that event:
REVELATION 1: 7 – “Look, He is coming with the clouds,” and “every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him”; and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of Him”. So shall it be! Amen.
The book of Revelation was written in the first century of A.D., when there was no advance of science as we have experienced right now, so many people wondered that how could every person on earth could witness His coming.
Later, in the time of Middle Ages, when some scientists declared that the earth is spherical, not flat like people thought before, the understanding of that particular verse above became more difficult. How a person on the other side of the spherical earth could see the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ on the day it happens?
But that particular prophecy has been fulfilled in present time when we have internet and satellites. Because of them now people can watch directly any event around the world if there is a TV team to broadcast it worldwide.
The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ will surely be an enormous and spectacular event and everyone with a digital device like phone, tablet, computer and TV can watch it from around the globe.
This prophecy has been recorded in the book of Revelation 2000 years ago and if you think about it, you will understand more of the power of our almighty God.
We will return to this subject another time. Meanwhile I would like to encourage you, my brothers and sisters in Christ, that you should give the Bible a rightful place in your lives, love it and study it whenever you have a chance, either at home or at the church with others, so that we can discover more how powerful our God is. It will help to strengthen our faith in Him and equip us with useful knowledge to answer any question that unbelievers would put forward for you.
