Today we read the book of prophet Amos and learnt a valuable lesson concerning the world today and this country. In the time of Amos there were many wickedness happened in the land of Israel. The kingdom’s leaders and the people hated the one who rebuked them openly at the city gates. They also abhorred the ones who spoke uprightly. They tread down the poor and put heavy taxes on them. It is not so different in American society today. As the Lord know the Israelites’ manifold transgression, their mighty sins, how they afflicted the just and took bribes to divert the poor from justice, He also see how the American politicians and the elites treating the common people. On the surface it is seems they are very compassionate to the poor and give them welfare checks, food stamps and free health care, but in reality they never want them escaping from the life of destitute. Instead they want to have more people living from the handouts so that their power positions would become absolute, particular when the handouts are not from their own pockets. In the time like this the Scripture says prudent men should keep silent and wait for God. One day He will surely make the whole world know how His stern justice is. The verse for today is:
(Amos 5: 13) Therefore the prudent keep silent at that time, for it is an evil time.
