BIBLICAL SCHOLARS AND THEIR MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE BIBLE

– Surprisingly we found that many biblical scholars do not have a complete understanding of the Bible. Some of them even don’t have faith in God and The Lord Jesus Christ.

– Those people studied the Bible for academic credentials, or because of their curiosity about the Bible, or to advance their careers, that’s why they did not look at the Bible as it should be.

– As we have said before, without faith, those who studied the Bible would never understand it completely and more than often they would be confused of many things that were recorded in it. Then it would make them having more doubt about the Bible and eventually lead to misunderstanding of the Book.

– In this article we will give some examples of misunderstanding that modern biblical scholars have.

– For example, Nathan MacDonald, on Monotheism and the Bible, said:

‘Within the biblical text, what we tend to find is much more, something that we might call monolatry, that is, the belief that there may be more deities, but that only one is to be worshipped. So, if we think of a text like the first commandment, “You shall have no other gods before me” we have a text there which allows for the existence of other deities but insists that only one is to be worshipped; Yahweh, the God of Israel’

– He quoted the first commandment in Exodus 20: 3 to explain of the belief that may be there were more gods that existed alongside the God of Israel. But in doing so he ignored other verses in the Bible that states clearly that there is no other gods, only Yahweh is God.

ISAIAH 43: 10 – You are My witnesses, says the Lord, and My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no god formed, nor shall there be after Me.

– The verse in Exodus 20: 3 must be understood that God forbid the Israelites to make anyone or anything into a god for themselves.

– He should look into the next verses to understand more of the context in Exodus 20: 3. But many people, including some biblical scholars, more than often thought that their knowledge alone was sufficient enough to interpret the Bible. That’s why they misunderstood the Bible and were wrong on many subjects relating to the Book.

EXODUS 20: 4-5 – You shall not make for yourself a carved image, any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.

– As we have said before, humans often arrogantly thought that with some years they had in higher educations, with some academic credentials then they had enough knowledge to understand the Book that was inspired by the God Who created the whole universe with mere words alone.

– For thousands of year, with more advance technology of the modern time, humans are still unable to understand all the mysteries of the Earth, but they thought they could understand the Bible and God without letting the Bible interpreting itself?
