BIBLE COMMENTARY/Psalm 111: 10

PSALM 111: 10 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; All who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

– People always think that they are wise enough to choose their actions and live their own lives, but that kind of wisdom is actually the greed of their eyes (Proverbs 12: 15, 26: 12).
– As they see something that they like and they try to have it, to satisfy their desires, they think that they themselves are wise. But more than often, the things they like satisfy them only in a short time, but after that they leave them miserable and more greedy. That’s why people always want something new and newer and never completely satisfy with the things they had.
– For example, human’s wisdom about wine and women attractiveness are two things that never satisfy human desires (Proverbs 23: 31-32, Proverbs 31: 30)
– The real wisdom is fearing God and following His commandments. A person who fears God will never want to do things according to his personal desires. God is holy so things that He wants us to do are all goods for ourselves (Proverbs 3: 7).
– For example, God wants us to avoid drinking, smoking, gambling and deviant lifestyles (Proverbs 23: 20-21, 1Corinthians 3: 17, 1Timothy 6: 10, 1Corinthians 6: 18). They will certainly hurt us one way or another.
