BIBLE COMMENTARY/Proverbs 22: 29
PROVERBS 22: 29 – Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.
– It’s a common understanding that whoever does their work excellently will get rewarded.
– In this verse, the Bible confirms that such a man will receive the highest and richest reward, i.e. from kings (Proverbs 10: 4, 12: 24, 27). It has been proven throughout human history, and it’s also a reminder for Christians to do our absolute best in whatever we do.
– We are diligent and excellent in our work, not only because we want to get the best rewards, but also because we want to glorify God with our works (1Corinthians 10: 31). Christ took up the cross and died to establish the Church, so we must uphold its reputation.
– The world does not pay much attention when Christians do good deeds, but they always call foul when Christians make a small mistake. Often, they will use that as a reason to persecute Christians and criticize the Church. That’s why we should always be excellent and careful in our doings.
– As we try the best to excel in our work to glorify God, we will happily stand before Him on the day He comes back to Earth and receive the reward of eternal life (Romans 2: 7). Even though we are saved by Grace, our good deeds is the real proof of our faith (James 2: 26).
