BIBLE COMMENTARY/Matthew 19: 21

MATTHEW 19: 21 – Jesus said unto him: If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

– According to the standard that Jesus set forth here, nobody can be perfect (Romans 3: 12). The young man thought he was perfect, but with Jesus’ standard, he was just arrogant (1Corinthians 10: 12, Job 42: 5-6, Galatians 6: 3).
– Giving charity to the poor is not the only requirement that should help a man to get into Heaven (Isaiah 64: 6). Throughout history, many people misunderstood this saying.
– The real condition for mankind to get into Heaven is to come to Jesus (believing in Him with all your heart, Matthew 22: 37) and to follow Him (by living out the standards that God has set forth in the Bible, Matthew 7: 21).
