BIBLE COMMENTARY / Matthew 19: 14
MATTHEW 19: 14 – But Jesus said: Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
– This is one of Jesus’ commands for Christians regarding of bringing their children to the understanding of God in their early ages so that they will choose wisely when they grow up (Proverbs 22: 6). Failure of His command by parents and church leaders have produced generations of grown-ups that don’t know or are being hostile towards Him.
– Bringing children to God is not as simple as getting them to church and participating in religious activities. Parents and church leaders must present them with good examples of a holy life not by word alone, but by good deed (1Corinthians 10: 23). Setting a bad example can destroy a whole generation. Such people will get a severe punishment on the day God judges the world (Matthew 18: 6).
– Jesus also said that everyone who want to be in Heaven must have a life of obedience like a child toward their parents. That is one of the requirements that God has set up for admission into His heavenly Kingdom (Hebrews 12: 9), so Christians should be aware of that. Remember, it is the obedience to His Scripture, not to the rules of churches.
