BIBLE COMMENTARY/John 6: 63
JOHN 6: 63 – It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
– This is Jesus’ saying and He let us know that the Holy Spirit is Who gives humans a meaningful life and true happiness (Romans 8: 13). Without Him human beings are just another species in the world who live a short, full-of-struggles life then die (Romans 8: 2).
– Even humans can have money while animals don’t, but we can use money to buy happiness and when we die, none of us can bring with us any money that we have (Ecclesiastes 5: 15).
– Even humans can love each other, but without the willingness to take responsibilities and accept self sacrifices, it is just physical attraction, no more no less. Animals can also have that kind of attraction to each other (John 13: 34, 1John 4: 18).
– Even we have advance technologies but without moral standards, they are just some kinds of techniques that humans can use to harm each other (weapons of mass destruction, for example).
– Even humans have education, but without moral standards, it is just another way to improve harmful skill to hurt others (There are criminals who have high educational credentials, like hackers, for example. There are also criminals who were highly skill professionals) (1Corinthians 3: 19).
– Therefore humans need the guidance of the Holy Spirit in order to have a meaningful life (Romans 8: 6). He has been with the world from the beginning but the humans keep rejecting Him all the time (John 1: 5). His words has been composed into the Bible but until now only a handful of people actually treasure it. We Christians should study it more deeply, memorize it and act upon it to have a fullest happy life (2Corinthians 3: 17).
