BIBLE COMMENTARY/John 14: 23
JOHN 14: 23 – Jesus answered and said to him: If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
– All Christians love Jesus, but He had established a standard so we could measure our love for Him. According to His standard, a Christian who loves Him must remember His teachings and apply them to their everyday life (James 1: 22). If a Christians said they love Him while ignoring His teachings, that love is meaningless (Luke 6: 46).
– With this rule, Jesus let us know that the love we have for Him must be shown through deeds or actions (2John 1: 6). It cannot be shown through words only. If we truly love Him, we should remember all of His teachings and instructions in the Bible (2Timothy 3: 16-17) and live accordingly (1John 2: 6).
– Love has two parts. We say it, and we act on it. Acting on it is the hardest part, but Christians must do it to show our love for Him, so we can be rewarded by having God by our side on Earth and forvermore (2John 2: 17).
