BIBLE COMMENTARY / Genesis 2: 9
GENESIS 2: 9 – And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
– Everything that God created was good and beneficial to humankind (Ecclesiastes 3: 11), but because of human’s sins that they turned unpredictable and dangerous (Romans 8: 21-22).
– The Scripture also lets us know that whatever God wants to happen, it will be right there because of His will and His everlasting power (Revelation 4: 11). He created the whole universe by His words only (Genesis 1: 3).
– Every kind of fruit in Eden was good for food. Before Adam ate the forbidden fruit, death was not present in Adam’s life (Genesis 2: 17). He was not destined for physical death.
– God only forbade Adam to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Before knowing how to distinguish between good and evil, there is no sin (Romans 4: 15), because according to God’s law, it’s a sin when a person knows what is good and not acting on it (James 4: 17). By this law, every child who died in early age will be inherited the Kingdom of Heaven with God (Matthew 19: 14).
