BIBLE COMMENTARY/Ecclesiastes 4: 1
ECCLESIASTES 4: 1 – Then I returned and considered all the oppression that is done under the sun: And look! The tears of the oppressed, but they have no comforter. On the side of their oppressors there is power, but they have no comforter.
– From the ancient times to the present, there are always the oppressed and the oppressors (Psalm 10: 2-4, 12: 8, Ecclesiastes 8: 11). This happened because of human greed and their tendency towards sin (1Timothy 6: 10). Even now in a civilized society, the human world is still like a jungle in which the powerful oppresses the poor.
– Although politicians talk about justice for the poor all the time, there is no justice to ease the pain in the populace. The tears of the oppressed are still running today, and will continue until the day Jesus comes and establish His authority (Revelation 7: 17, 21: 4).
– God knows all of this and He has been waiting for mankind to come to Him for comfort (Isaiah 55: 1, Matthew 11: 28, James 4: 8, 1Peter 2: 4), but most of them would rather seek it elsewhere or take justice into their own hands than asking for help from God.
– That’s why God has put forth a day on which He will judge all mankind (Hebrews 9: 27) and everyone will receive the rewards or punishment according to what they had done while living on Earth (Isaiah 11: 4, 2Corinthians 5: 10).
QUOTED VERSES:
PSALM 10: 2-4 – The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined. The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
PSALM 12: 8 – The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.
