BIBLE COMMENTARY/2John 1: 6

2JOHN 1: 6 – This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

– Because God loves the world and all humans in it, He had came to Earth and died on the cross for human sins (John 3: 16, 1John 4: 10). And also because of that greatest love, He gave us the commandments to help us to live in harmony with Him and with each other.
– All His commandments can be summed up into 2 important rules: Love God and love each other (Mark 12: 33). Therefore if we want to live a fully loving life on Earth, we should obey His commandments and follow carefully His standards.
– Many people have misunderstood the meaning of the word of love. They thought that love means accepting everyone’s personal way, idea or lifestyle. But with more than 6 billion humans living on Earth, who’s personal way, idea or lifestyle will be above others’ or will be the common’ standards for others? And surely we cannot accepting the personal way of life of more than 6 billion humans, because if it was the case, there would be chaos and confusion all over the world.
– Because people from the ancient time to this day have refused to live according to God’ standards for human beings so the world has been the place of conflict and disagreement for all human’s history. The fighting among mankind to promote a particular lifestyle or ideology of a group of people (either political, religious or social) will never stop until God comes back to Earth and establishing His 1000-year kingdom (Revelation 20: 6).
– No matter how hard humans have tried, the world will never be a place of harmony and contentment until everyone agree to live according to God’ standards. Human history is the proof of it. And one thing we should understand, that God never forces people to obey His commandments while they are living in this world (James 1: 25). He has given humans the freedom of choice, so He will wait for them to follow Him by their own decisions. Any religious institutions or organizations that force others to follow them is quite wrong according to God’s intention.
