BIBLE COMMENTARY/1John 4: 17
JOHN 4: 17 – Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.
– God is Love. When He took a human form to come into the world and became Jesus, He taught about love whenever He had a chance. In God’ standards, love is always at the top of all virtues and He wants us to have it in our hearts (1John 4: 7), and to love like He did (1John 4: 17).
– This message has been heard around the world from then to this present day, but people have misunderstood it and even used it as a weapon to criticize Christianity and God. They misunderstood it because they thought that if Christians are supposed to be loving, then they must love them according to their sinful ways and accept them as they are.
– According to this verse, we Christians must love in the way Jesus did. He loved sinners but never accepted sin as a way of life. People must change, and turn from the sinful path that they are going in (Matthew 4: 17, Acts 3: 19). Jesus loved by willing to forgive if mankind repented, and also by His love for those who agree to walk in God’s righteous way (Revelation 21: 4) that He will judge and condemn those who refuse to repent into the fire of Hell forever (Romans 2: 5, Luke 13: 5).
– People always demand governments to keep societies safe from crimes for their well being, but they criticize God for keeping the universe and His heavenly Kingdom safe from sins for His children. It is disappointing that people don’t understand a simple matter like that.
