BIBLE COMMENTARY/1Corinthians 2: 5
1CORINTHIANS 2: 5 – So that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.
– In this verse, God wants us to base our faith on the Bible because from it we will discover God’s power (2Timothy 3: 15-16),
– Many people thought of the Bible as a book like other normal, ordinary books and they read it without studying it verse by verse, or worse, they did not even think deeply about it,
– That’s one of the reasons that people did not understand it, let alone drawing benefits from it. On the contrary, they even criticized it without fully checking all the facts in it,
– But for Christians, our faith is based on the Bible. It’s the only physical source that we can build our faith upon,
– Therefore, in His word, God has warned us that we Christians should not based our faith on human wisdom, because mankind is so often proud of, even to the level of arrogance, of their achievements, and despised of what they could not understand. That’s the human habit toward the Bible (Jude 1: 10),
– There are many examples of biblical professors who were wrong about truth in the Bible because of their knowledge solely based on human wisdom,
– But for Christians, when we study the Bible thoroughly, we will see that God is real and we can feel the power of the Holy Spirit (1Corinthians 2: 10, John 16: 13, 17: 17),
– In relating to 1Timothy 4: 12, when young Christians try to avoid being looked down by others, they should study the Bible careful in the guidance of the Holy Spirit in order to be wiser, more prudent in every aspects of human life (Psalm 111: 10, Proverbs 1: 7, 9: 10)
Quoted Bible:

PROVERBS 1: 7 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
PROVERBS 9: 10 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
JOHN 16: 13 – But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
JOHN 17: 17 – Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
1CORINTHIANS 2: 10 – These are the things God has revealed to us by His Spirit.
1TIMOTHY 3: 15-17 – And how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
JUDE 1: 10 – Yet these people slander whatever they do not understand, and the very things they do understand by instinct, as irrational animals do, will destroy them.
